Starting today and running through April 7th, there is an incredible opportunity to augment your growing collection with some otherwise impossible to find bottles and others that are merely hard to come by. The best part is that it is all for a great cause – the necessary and continued relief efforts to dig out from Hurricane Sandy!

Here, direct from the press release is all the pertinent information

Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) is pleased to announce DeVine Intervention, an online wine auction to benefit the Hurricane Sandy relief efforts of the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City. The Mayor’s Fund is supporting immediate aid needs as well as long-term relief and restoration. Organized by Union Square Hospitality Group Wine Director and Master Sommelier, John Ragan, DeVine Intervention has been envisioned as a way for the wine community to band together to help New Yorkers.

The online auction will be open to the public for bidding beginning March 25th through April 7th, 2013 at www.devineintervention.com. Solicited by invitation, approximately 250 lots will be donated by the community of sommeliers, restaurateurs, chefs, importers, distributors, and winemakers. The auction will include a one-of-a-kind selection of extraordinary wines from renowned producers including Champagne Krug, Giuseppe Quintarelli, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Armand Rousseau, Domaine Coche-Dury, Peter Michael Winery and many, many more.

DeVine Intervention is made possible by the generous commitment of resources, expertise, and support from Sotheby’s Wine, Vortex Solution, and Western Carriers. As a result of this generosity, there will be no buyer’s premium and 100% of the hammer price of each lot sold will be donated directly to the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City in support of Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts. The Mayor’s Fund retains no administrative fee, and 100% of contributions are being dispersed to relief efforts and organizations.

“After Hurricane Sandy, the community of NYC restaurant employees worked hard to get our restaurants and our lives back to normal, but many of our fellow New Yorkers are still suffering from the aftermath of Sandy,” said USHG Wine Director John Ragan. “Although the storm may have since slipped out of the headlines, this is when many New Yorkers need our help the most.”

Danny Meyer, CEO and Founder of USHG, said “We are proud to invite the wine community to join in the ongoing Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts. We’re grateful for the exceptional donations we’ve received, and are excited that the selection of special lots will give enthusiasts a chance to accumulate wonderful wines, while giving back by helping those who were hardest hit by the storm.”

“We are very grateful to Union Square Hospitality Group, Sotheby’s Wine, Vortex Solution and Western Carriers for their collaboration on this spirited initiative,” said Megan Sheekey, President of the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City. “This generous support will go a long way as New York City continues to recover from Hurricane Sandy.”

There are some truly special bottles amongst the lots like the 1996 vintage of Vega-Sicilia Unico is as well as some other pretty select bottles like 1990 Krug Clos de Mesnil Champagne, 1988 Giuseppe Quintarelli Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva, 1990 Chateau Lafite Rothschild and 2005 DRC Richeborg amongst many others. Cheers!
